Local

We enjoy an excellent working relationship with the local hospital and other healthcare partners. We relish the continuity of care that we can provide at the hospital (including on-call and admitting rights), woven with our private clinic work. Tumby Bay Hospital offers an emergency department, outpatients, and inpatients, with 16 acute beds and 14 high level nursing home beds. We work with experienced nursing staff and allied health staff including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and social workers. We have access to point of care troponin, INR, BNP, chem8 and chem4 blood testing. Our local doctors operate the new x-ray machine and point of care ultrasound machine.

We have specialists that visit our clinic including general surgeons, child psychiatrist, general paediatrician, neurologist, and palliative care. We have a great relationship with Tumby Bay Pharmacy who service our community and are always available to help. Tumby Bay District is faithfully served by a tireless team of ambulance volunteers. We have two blood couriers a day (also volunteers) which deliver formal bloods to the SA pathology lab in Port Lincoln. Occasionally in an emergency, family members of the patient have partnered with us to deliver urgent bloods.

City

While we are 600km from Adelaide, help is only ever a phone call away. We are regularly in contact with private specialists and hospital teams to seek advice and coordinate care for our patients. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is essential for the safe up-transfer of our patients who require tertiary hospital care, and Medstar provide a 24-hour retrieval service. I-Carnet is a 24-hour service for specialist cardiology advice, and Rural and Remote provide 24-hour mental health support to both patients and practitioners. We can access SAVES (virtual emergency services) overnight if needed.

It requires resilience and clinical courage.
But help is only ever a phone call away.”
