Our Clinic
Tumby Bay Medical is a private practice, delightfully situated on the esplanade, adjacent to Tumby Bay Hospital. The practice is purpose built and has 7 consulting rooms in addition to a treatment room and office suites. We provide comprehensive family medicine with special interests including skin cancer medicine, obstetric shared care, mental health and travel medicine.
Services
Aided by our nursing staff, we offer additional services such as baby and child health checks, vaccinations, ear syringing, wound care, health care assessments and chronic disease care planning (including mental health treatment plans). We can provide a range of investigations including formal venepuncture, point of care testing (INR, Hba1c), ECGs, spirometry, audiometry testing, ABI doppler, and holter monitoring.
Hospital Support
We provide 24/7 on-call emergency support to the Tumby Bay Hospital. We also have two of our clinic computers at the hospital so that our doctors can access clinic patient records, providing excellent continuity of care. The on-call doctor generally has no pre-bookings at the clinic to allow time to manage both on-the-day clinic appointments and hospital attendances.
Clinic Information
-
In case of a life-threatening emergency please call an Ambulance on 000. In this situation, please do not attempt to drive yourself to the hospital. For emergency consults after hours, please call or present to the Tumby Bay Hospital. You will be assessed and triaged by a senior nurse who will then discuss with the doctor on-call and make a plan for further care.
-
We have adjusted our on the day bookings to ensure that urgent presentations can be seen in a timely fashion. Our on-call doctor generally has no pre-bookings for the day at the clinic, allowing them to provide essential medical services to the local hospital, as well as urgent clinic presentations. Our administrative staff may ask you additional questions about your complaint - they are not being nosey, they are seeking to appropriately triage your appointment. Your medical information will be handled with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
-
There is currently a wait for a non-urgent appointment with all of our doctors. We encourage you to plan ahead where possible e.g. driving licences, scripts. If you see your doctor and require follow-up, we recommend booking your follow-up appointment that day, even if it is months away. This will ensure follow-up with your doctor of choice. We also do have a cancellation list that is regularly reviewed and appointments brought forward where possible.
Our standard appointment time is 15 minutes. Please advise the reception staff when booking if you think you will need a longer appointment. Examples include mental health consults, employment medicals, or more than one medical issue to discuss.

We are a private practice and a mixed billing clinic. We currently bulk-bill children under 16, health care card holders and concession card holders, and charge a gap for all other patients. We have a Tyro EFTPOS system which means the payment is taken out of your account and the medicare rebate is immediately reimbursed directly into your account.
We understand that due to personal circumstances it may not be possible to pay the gap for a consult, either at the time or at all. If your financial situation will stop you from seeking medical care, please discuss this when booking your appointment and this will be accommodated where possible. We currently bulk-bill chronic disease management plans and mental health treatment plans to ensure this is accessible to all patients.
The practice reserves the right to charge 100% of the booked appointment fee for any non-attendance. This is just simply to cover costs of running the clinic, but also to encourage patients to cancel/change appointments in an appropriate time frame (>24 hours) so that another patient can be offered the appointment.

Where possible, we try to do these as part of appointments. Even a script and a referral requires the doctor’s time and also due diligence to review your medical history. We need to ensure that you are receiving appropriate care regarding your medical conditions, and that we have done the appropriate GP investigations prior to referral.
-
We kindly remind patients that if you do not have a specific follow-up appointment with your GP, you are responsible for calling to check any results from blood tests, scans or other investigations. If results are marked as normal by your doctor, nursing staff will be able to advise. If they are not normal then you may be referred on to our nursing staff, or a GP follow-up appointment booked.
-
We are all bound by strict confidentiality rules. As such, we cannot discuss private medical information with anyone but the patient unless they have given specific permission to do so, or have been deemed to not have capacity and therefore are referring to their Medical Power of Attorney / Advanced Care Directives. If you need a copy of your medical records, please speak with reception staff.
-
We offer all routine vaccinations as well as a range of travel vaccinations. We are also a registered Q-fever clinic and Yellow Fever clinic. Please allow 15 minutes after your vaccination to remain in the waiting room for observation, to ensure you are not having any significant reaction.

Your feedback is important to us. Please ask at the reception desk for a feedback form which will be received and reviewed by our practice manager.
